Description
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the US. While 3,500 lives per month are lost due to auto-mobile related accidents, that number pales in comparison to the 72,000 lives that will be lost in that same month due to heart disease. This means every 33 seconds someone in the United States dies from cardiovascular disease.
So how do you make sure that you are not the one gone in 33 seconds? How do we squash this malevolent giant? Experts say that Americans, on average, sit for 13 hours a day and sleep for 8 hours resulting in a sedentary lifestyle for 21 hours of the 24 hour day. A sedentary lifestyle is known to increase a person’s risk of cardiovascular disease. Cardiologist Martha Grogan at the Mayo Clinic stated, “For people who sit most of the day, their risk of heart attack is about the same as smoking.” One solution in order to begin to regain your health, try standing for fifteen minutes every hour this simple trick can help to lower blood sugar levels and triglycerides.
Of course, as with many of the health challenges we face today, diet plays a crucial role in the development and prevention of cardiovascular disease. Researchers say that diet is the key component to change in order to impact all of your other cardiovascular risk factors. Eating a diet high in fresh fruits and vegetables protects your heart. About 20% of all cardiovascular disease cases worldwide can be attributed to low fruit and vegetable intake, so it is important to make sure you are keeping that intake up.
Because of the prevalence of cardiovascular disease in our country and community, on Monday, March 23rd at 6:45pm, Dr. James Judge and Dr. Kalie Judge will host the Maximized Living Advanced Workshop titled, “Heart Talk: Change the Stats for Good!” This event, which will be held at the Hickory Knolls Discovery Center in Saint Charles, Illinois, will offer practical tips that will help people of all ages create a game plan to overcome health hurdles. At “Heart Talk,” Dr. James Judge and Dr. Kalie Judge will address a few simple concepts to help attendees restore proper heart function and manage overall cardiovascular health naturally:
- How to stop plaque in its tracks.
- Why the age old saying, “It runs in my family,” should be banished.
- How reparable irregularities in the nervous system can interfere with heart function.
- Why the link between what you eat and how your heart beats is so strong.
- How salt can help or hurt your cardiovascular system.
