Description
Join us as we celebrate the Beith House’s 175th Birthday!
In 1850, Scottish stonemason William Beith built this rubble limestone Greek Revival stone home on the west bank of the Fox River in downtown St. Charles. The house is one of the least altered pre-Civil War homes in the Fox Valley.
In the 1970s, the home suffered a fire, making it uninhabitable. The owner wanted to demolish the home to make way for more parking. Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley stepped in and convinced the owner to donate the house on the condition that it be restored. Several years later, the restoration was complete, and the home opened as a museum with offices for Preservation Partners on the 2nd floor.
The home is a St. Charles local historic landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
