During the entire month of April, Individuals can bring in a new or used pair of pajamas for all ages of children and adults, and receive a savings coupon that can be used anytime in the store. PADS at Hesed House, is the second largest homeless shelter in numbers served in Illinois – second only to the City of Chicago. Every night, nearly 200 men, women and children line up outside the doors of Hesed House seeking a place to sleep, shower, do laundry, receive a meal, obtain medical and legal services, and other life-sustaining services. Over 6,000 volunteers and 80 faith-based communities, businesses and organizations provide manpower and food to feed the homeless and have served over 2 million meals since Hesed House opened its doors. To obtain more information about how to help or for any assitance, you can contact Hesed House directly at (630) 897-2156.
The Center provides:
- The PADS® Overnight Emergency Shelter (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) provides food, shelter, laundry facilities, and on–site counseling for 155 to 207 individuals each night.
- 50% of the adults in the PADS Program are employed. 100% of the adults in the TLC Program are either employed, seeking employment or seeking disability benefits.
- PADS® A.M. (and more!) is a Daytime Drop–In Center that offers daytime refuge and an opportunity for self–improvement and development to over 100 PADS guests a day, five days a week.
- The Transitional Living Community (TLC) provides temporary on–site housing and opportunities for up to 52 homeless persons of which almost, always 50% are children.
