Water Street Studios New Exhibitions: ‘Fermilab’s artist-in-residence: Lindsay Olson and Jim Jenkins” and “Homestead National Monument artist-in-residence: Georgia Schwender”
Water Street Studios’ Dempsey Family Gallery will display the work created by two of Fermilab’s artist-in-residence, Lindsay Olson and Jim Jenkins. Fermilab is America’s national laboratory dedicated to particle physics research. To initiate and stimulate communication and interactions among scientists, artists and the public, the Artist-in-Residence program was founded in 2014.
Lindsay Olson writes,
“I am fascinated by the behavior of natures’ fundamental building blocks. As the first artist-in-residence with Fermilab, I use my art to invite others with little or no technical background to explore the elegant world of particle physics.”
Jim Jenkins writes, “as the 2017 Fermilab Artist-in-Residence, I was open to the rich and mind expanding possibilities of examining the history of the lab, it’s unique setting, personalities past and present and experimental future. My hope is that unexpected cerebral, visual and auditory inputs will result in experimental explorations into intersecting nodal ambiguities.
Upstairs in the Kane County Chronicle Gallery located on the second floor of Water Street Studios Georgia Schwender will exhibit cyanotypes of the native prairie created during her artist-in-residence at Homestead National Monument in Beatrice Nebraska.
The opening receptions will be held on April 13th from 6:00-9:00 p.m. In addition to viewing the work and meeting the artists who created it, there will also be small selection of appetizers by Gaetano’s Batavia, a bar featuring beer from Solemn Oath Brewery and wine.
All proceeds from bar sales go to support arts programming at Water Street Studios.
All exhibits continue until May 5th, 2018. Thank you to event sponsor, K. Hollis Jewelers.
Opening receptions will be held Friday, April 13th, from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
The shows in both galleries will be on view during regular public gallery hours: Friday, 2-6 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 12 to 4 p.m. at 160 S. Water Street in Batavia.
