Description
Safely discard your confidential papers!
Berkshire Hathaway Starck Real Estate on the east side of St. Charles is sponsoring a secure shredding event, free to the public, on Saturday, August 29.
Between 9am and 1pm, people can drop off paper-only records in the company’s parking lot at 1607 E. Main Street. It is on the southwest corner of Tyler Road and Rt. 64 with entrances on either street. There will be signs and balloons to point the way.
“We feel this service will benefit almost every adult today. We all worry about identity theft but do not want to store our confidential documents indefinitely!” said Lori Linkimer, Managing Broker for the Berkshire Hathaway Starck Real Estate office.
Examples of records that are recommended for shredding include payroll stubs, credit card receipts, cancelled checks, contracts, credit applications and bank statements. Staples and paper clips do not have to be removed, but please do not bring papers in binders or plastic folders.
In general, tax records and certain other types of documents should be retained for six years. Consult a tax accountant for specific requirements.
For a full list of shreddable documents and recommended time frames for retention, please call Berkshire Hathaway Starck Real Estate at 630.377.9200. The doors are open to the office seven days a week, so feel free to stop in and visit with a professional Broker associate while your papers are destroyed.
“Rest assured that we have contracted a company for this event that has over 30 years of experience in the document shredding industry,” said Linkimer.
Document Destruction Company, based in Chicago, follows strict safety protocols both at the event and at their restricted access facility. Employees are bonded and insured and undergo a rigorous background check.
The real estate profession involves the processing of confidential information and is very familiar with secure and safe practices.
“Our business is built on client trust. This shredding event is a natural extension of that trust that we are happy to offer to the communities we serve,” said Linkimer.
